The Right to Dream Academy, International, has crossed around 6000km and now they’re in Sweden, ready for the world's largest and most international youth football tournament - Gothia Cup.
As we set foot in Gothenburg – the birthplace of Gothia Cup – memories of our past trips flood our minds. And while we set our sights on retaining the cup and claiming our seventh title, Gothia Cup is more than just a quest for silverware.
For us, it’s a transformative journey that builds character, strengthens bonds, and nurtures sportsmanship. It’s not just about the matches. It’s about the values we uphold, the impact we leave behind, and the way we approach games. A unique learning experience that extends far beyond the pitch.
And as we look back, we can’t help but remember how our graduates including the likes of Mohamed Kudus and Ernest Nuamah took those very fields, representing Right to Dream during Gothia Cup - Kudus netted the winning goal during the 2017 final, and Nuamah helped the team lift the trophy in 2018 and 2019. And today, they thrive with their clubs AFC Ajax and FC Nordsjælland, and together, they proudly represent the Ghana National Team.
It’s proved to be a steppingstone for many of our graduates. And this year, we can’t wait to witness the next generation of football stars in action.
The 2023 Journey
Taking part in Gothia Puma Trophy B17, where 24 teams from 11 countries come together, our journey in Gothia Cup 2023 begins on Monday. Drawn in Group 1, we kick off our campaign with an exciting challenge against Sweden’s Landskrona BoIS. We face Fredrikstad Fotballklubb of Norway on Tuesday, before wrapping up the group stage on Wednesday against Swedish IF Elfsborg – another home team. The knockout stage starts on Thursday, and the final takes place on Saturday.
