Egypt’s FC Masar, part of the Right to Dream community, are making history as they step onto the prestigious stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League for the first time.
This debut on Africa’s biggest stage in women’s football is a huge milestone for FC Masar and the entire Right to Dream community, embodying our mission of championing young talent and paving the way for the next generation of female footballers.
While FC Masar were promoted to Egypt’s top-tier less than three years ago, they’ve quickly made their mark on the Egyptian football scene. They claimed the 2023 Egypt Cup and secured the domestic double in the 2023/24 season.
Following these achievements, they earned their spot among Africa’s top clubs in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, an impressive accomplishment for a team so early in its journey.
The Path to the CAF Women’s Champions League
How did FC Masar qualify?
The journey hasn’t been easy. Our players fought hard in the UNAF qualifiers, finishing as runners-up behind Morocco’s ASFAR.
But with Morocco hosting this year’s Champions League, FC Masar secured a spot as the UNAF representative.
This opened up an incredible opportunity for growth, learning, and gaining invaluable experience by competing against Africa’s best.
“It won’t be easy, but we have a lot to add to the competition,” shared forward Mahira Ali, highlighting the team’s determination.
Challenging the Best in Africa: The Group B Match Schedule
FC Masar will face an elite lineup in Group B, beginning their campaign on November 10 against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, the titleholders.
Following that, they’ll take on Nigeria’s Edo Queens on November 13 and wrap up the group stage against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia on November 16.
November 10: vs. Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
November 13: vs. Edo Queens (Nigeria)
November 16: vs. Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia)
Every match represents a fresh challenge for this young team, which has an average age of just 20.6.
These games offer a unique opportunity for FC Masar’s young talents to test themselves and gain experience against some of Africa’s best.
Guided by head coach Ahmed Ramadan, the team heads into the tournament with a fearless mindset and a focus on what they can bring to each match. He acknowledged the challenge ahead but encouraging the players to approach each game with confidence and clarity.
“Football is about what you can do on the pitch. It’s not about history or what has been done in the past.” - Coach Ahmed Ramadan.
Right to Dream's Commitment to Female Talent Development
FC Masar’s journey is part of a bigger mission for the Right to Dream community to open doors for the next generation of female players, inspiring young girls to see themselves in football and sparking a ripple effect of growth and opportunity.
This commitment spans the entire Right to Dream community, from FC Nordsjælland Women’s team in Denmark to our girls’ academies in Ghana, Egypt, and Denmark, and partnerships with organizations like the Powerhouse Project.
Together, we’re building more opportunities for young female talents.
