Right To Dream nurturing sporting talent in Africa

the sports academy

The Right to Dream Academy is currently located in a small town in the Akuapem hills in the Eastern region of Ghana, where there are few, if any, opportunities for children to play sport at the same time as obtain a first class education in a safe and supportive environment.
The Right to Dream Academy answers this need and focuses on nurturing the child, the student and the athlete, helping to develop empowered young people who are capable of leading positive social development.

The Academy’s objectives are
  • To provide a safe and supportive environment for children to develop their academic, sporting and key life skills.
  • To provide children with an educational programme that equips them with the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to enable them to pursue, upon graduation, further education and employment opportunities both locally and internationally.
“You can have anything you want, if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose.”
Abraham Lincoln

To date, the Academy has worked with more than 80 children, over 50% of whom are drawn from families that live on less than a $1 per day, per person and a further 45% are from families that live on less than $1.80 per day, per person.

Our pupils have often had to overcome severe adversity and our programme is designed to meet their unique needs.  As scholars, our pupils benefit from;
  • Enrolment in our international school. To learn more about our school and academic programmes, please click here.
  • Our unique personal development and leadership programme.  To learn more, please click here.
  • A safe, healthy and loving environment through the provision of accommodation, a healthy diet and a programme of pastoral care which offers personal support.
  • Good quality training facilities, expert coaching, and support services including physiotherapy and sports psychology.
The Right to Dream program definitely nurtures students to approach life with enthusiasm which is hard to find in a young underprivileged kid living on the streets of Ghana. My time at the Right to Dream Academy was an experience of a lifetime. We were brought up to take chances and be on our best behaviour no matter the kind of circumstances you find yourself in.

(Academy Graduate 2006, Albert Kumah (CK), The Hotchkiss School Class of ’09)

In the last nine years the Right to Dream Academy and our graduates have achieved significant international and domestic success through combining sport and education.

On this basis we have now reached a point where we are expanding our programme and we have just started construction of a new US$1.48million (FINAL FIGURE STILL NEEDS ADDING) multi-sport Academy that will offer scholarships to boys and girls in the sports of football, tennis, basketball, boxing, golf and athletics.

This new Academy will ensure that we are able to offer these unique educational and sporting opportunities to many more underprivileged children in the future.  To learn more about the new multi-sport Academy please click here.
