Abdul Majeed Waris is a RtD graduate who plays for FC Lorient in France and the Ghanaian national team. Born in Tamale, Majeed Waris started his career at Right to Dream Academy when he was twelve. He was awarded an elite sports scholarship to study at Hartpury College in the UK, before being scouted in 2010 by BK Hacken in Sweden.
A prolific striker, Waris became the first player in the Allsvenskan (the Swedish Premier League) to score five goals in one match and was named the Allsvenskan’s Player of the Year in 2012. His goal scoring exploits in Sweden secured a high profile move to Spartak Moscow in 2013, including a loan spell at Valenciennes in Ligue 1, before securing another high profile move to Trabzonspor.
Waris has achieved significant milestones for Right to Dream, becoming the first graduate to score for the Black Stars and the first to feature at a FIFA World Cup, representing Ghana in Brazil in 2014, playing against Portugal at the Estadio Nacional in Brasilia.
